 NURSING PROGRAMS and CURRICULA

At ATS, nursing education is based on knowledge of scientific principles, which are applied in an environment of caring.  The goal of nursing education is to prepare a student who can think critically, who is accountable for clinical decision making, and who has the professional behavior of a caring, competent nurse.

ADN Nursing Curriculum:

ADN PROGRAM STRUCTURE

To accommodate students' needs, ATS offers a day and evening/weekend program.  Both require full time attendance.  No part-time course of study is offered.  The ADN program is divided into seven (7) quarters.

Advanced placement for the licensed practical nurse is available. The LPN/ADN track can be completed in four (4) quarters. Both programs admit students twice per year.  Program days and class times vary according to individual class schedules.  For further information and admission dates please contact the school.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS for ADN PROGRAM:

All candidates for admission to our nursing program are considered on individual merit without discrimination on the basis of age, creed, race, sex, ethnic/national origin, marital status, political affiliations, beliefs, or disabilities.

Admission Requirements Include:

  • Completed school application
  • Completion of preadmission testing (NET) with satisfactory scores in all areas
  • Graduation from high school or GED with a GPA of 2.5 on official high school transcript and/or college transcript with a GPA of 2.5

ADDITIONAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR ADVANCED PLACEMENT IN THE LPN/ADN TRACK:

  • Graduation from a state approved practical nursing program
  • Current LPN licensure
  • Completion of a pharmacology course or equivalent
  • Completion of courses required for advanced placement (see curriculum)
  • Individual candidates deficient in one or more of the requirements may be advised to take specific action to qualify for admission

LPN/ADN Nursing Curriculum:

 

LPN PROGRAM STRUCTURE:

The Practical Nursing Program is a diploma program that consists of 44 weeks (four 11 week quarters). We offer both day and evening/weekend classes to accommodate students’ busy lives. The program prepares its graduates to apply for licensure upon graduation. Clinical experiences are offered at a wide variety of health care settings in the greater Cleveland area. Graduates are prepared to provide nursing care to persons of all ages in many diverse settings.   Classes are admitted twice per year.

LPN Nursing Curriculum:

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

  • high school graduate or  have obtained a GED certificate.

  • satisfactory results in the pre-entrance test: 55 % in math and reading is   required

  • satisfactory physician’s report of physical examination

  • CPR Certification by American Heart Association (HealthCare Provider) or American Red Cross (Professional Rescuer course)

  • Pay an application fee ($30.00-not refundable)

  • Must attend a personal interview

    PRE-ENTRANCE TEST:

The Pre-entrance test is a three-hour test consisting of math, reading, and language ability. Register one week prior to the test date by calling (440) 449-1700. A driver’s license or state picture ID and test fee are required at the time you take the test. The cost of the test is $30. You can pay in cash or by money order made payable to ATS Institute of Technology

 

THE FOLLOWING ARE REQUIRED OF ALL STUDENTS BEFORE BEGINNING CLASSES:

  • Provide physician's report of physical examination completed prior to admission
  • Complete of CPR-HealthCare Provider Course from either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
  • Undergo fingerprinting and a background check (BCI and FBI) at least one month prior to admission date.  Request results to be sent to ATS.
  • Document current immunizations including MMR and Td Booster.  Hepatitis B series is strongly recommended.  Evidence of chicken pox disease or immunization date or titer.  TB results - 2 step Mantoux.

TRANSFER POLICY

College or university credits may be eligible for transfer into our Associate Degree program.  Courses requested for transfer must be completed with a minimum grade of 2.0 or 'C' to satisfy the competency.  Science courses will transfer if completed within the last three years, and other courses (except nursing) seven years.
